This single story, 18,000-sf building was delivered to the State of Idaho in a design build format. Design of the 2 ½ acre bare ground site started in November 2009 and construction was kicked off with a groundbreaking on March 25, 2010. By researching existing facilities and listening to the Agency, our design team was able to identify what exactly was needed in order to make this building as successful as possible for the owner’s needs. Key elements that were incorporated were a building that had a Northwestern feel, large open work areas that were inviting to work in, good lighting and acoustics, raised computer flooring that offers future flexibility for adaptability to change program layout, as well as location for phone, data, and power outlets, conference rooms that could be multifunctional with a design for afterhours use by others as well as having interactive projection white boards. Key site improvements included adequate parking for both customers and employees, as well as allocated overflow area for special events, also serving as snow removal storage. With construction underway the owner incorporated the build out of a large data room which included computer racking with four in rack cooling units supported by four 8-ton condensers, as well as, a UPS system supported by a 230 kw generator and FM200 fire suppression system. Construction was complete on time and the agency moved into their new facility during the last weekend of October, with an official ribbon cutting ceremony held on November 9th, 2011.
