This single story 3,300-sqft educational facility was designed as a tool to educate the region on energy conservation and fire safe design. This project will provide a home for the State of Idaho’s first commercial Fuel Cell. Building design incorporated a vaulted clerestory roof structure utilizing clearstory windows, diffused lighting, and passive solar gain. A fuel cell and photovoltaic system, donated by Idaho Power, provides supplemental electricity to the facility as well as providing electricity back to the power grid. Mechanical heating and cooling is achieved from a hydraulic heat pump system working in tandem with the fuel cell.
